Shadowgrass

Shadowgrass at The Barrelhouse Ballroom

In Shadowgrass, the instrument you decide to follow can change the whole song for you. Start with the banjo or fiddle, then listen for the voices. There’s a good reason to hear the group live if you enjoy the speed of bluegrass picking and also want a song you can take home in your head. Shadowgrass comes to The Barrelhouse Ballroom in Chattanooga on Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 8:00 p.m.

The voices are a second reason to go. Fast playing can pull your ear straight to the next note, but a harmony can make you stop and listen to the note that’s already there. It’s worth having both in the same evening, especially if you came expecting to care mainly about the picking. If you’re new to the group, its records give you a useful way in.

All That Will gives you a feel for how the band’s songwriting has grown alongside its playing. If you’ve got a friend who thinks of bluegrass mainly as instrumental fireworks, give them a track to try before the show. You can listen for the parts that made each of you want to hear more.
